This year, the lake will be taken down 2 feet. The drawdown will start on October 15, and the 2-foot target will need to be reached by November 30. The drawdown target may not always be reached if there are heavy rainfalls during the drawdown period, but 2 feet should be achievable. After November 30, the lake level will be managed to the level that has been reached on November 30. The refill of the lake will start on March 1, 2026, and full refill should be reached by April 1, 2026.
The annual drawdown is made to help protect shorelines from ice damage and to help prevent erosion and lake sedimentation. It also helps control invasive plants in shallow water and gives property owners an opportunity to repair shoreline erosion structures.
